Tarantino almost made a Luke Cage film in the 90s – and the path of the record-breaking superhero franchise would have likely been very different
If Quentin Tarantino were to hand out a dollar for every “lost” movie he never quite got round to making, he would soon find his wallet pretty light. The director of Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood often resembles a gardener who has been blessed with fertile soil and a plentiful supply of creative seeds. He flings out ideas with cheery zeal, then sits back and waits to see which end up taking root.
It’s long been known that QT had considered a Luke Cage movie back in the 1990s, just after the film-maker had entered the public consciousness with his crime caper debut Reservoir Dogs. This makes sense: Cage was created in 1972, at the height of the blaxploitation era, and Tarantino has a passion for the genre that fed into his decision to plunge Pam Grier back into the limelight for the underrated Jackie Brown. The Marvel hero also teamed up in the comic books with Iron Fist, and we all know about Tarantino’s penchant for kung-fu kicking heroes with a thirst for bloody revenge.Continue reading...

Sarah Jane Rook, 43, allegedly screamed at BBC Radio 6 Music presenter Giles Peterson: “You will die.”
Former BBC legal assistant Rook, 43, is said to have turned up at his home posing as a charity worker and the following day allegedly climbed up scaffolding opposite to spy on him.
She appeared at East London’s Thames magistrates’ court yesterday via live video link from Bronzefield women’s jail accused of harassment charges against Giles and his wife and also breaching bail conditions.
Rook is further accused of racist harassment towards a police officer who arrested her.
She is said to have waged a month-long campaign of harassment against 55-year-old Giles and his Japanese wife Atsuko, who she allegedly called a ‘Hiroshima bitch.’VILE OBSCENITIES
Rook is also said to have gone to the BBC’s Broadcasting House HQ, where French-born Giles works, in Portland Place, Central London.
She allegedly stood outside the North London home where record label owner Giles, born Gilles Jerome Moehrle, and wife Atsuko live and yelled vile obscenities.
Rook even went to Atusko Moehrle’s work place and screamed abuse at her, it is alleged.
Giles, whose BBC radio weekend slots cover a wide range of genres, including soul, hip-hop, house, Afro, Latin and jazz, called police after a series of incidents beginning on 15 February.
Rook was then further charged with breaching bail by being in an area she was restricted from going and with stalking Giles between 21 and 24 March.
Rook, who describes herself as a photographer and journalist, denies four counts of harassment, two of them racially-aggravated, and breaching bail conditions.
The court heard she claims the accusations are ‘’malicious.’’

The Grand National Festival was due to begin in Liverpool today, with the country’s biggest horse race taking place on Saturday.
But like pretty much all sports around the world, it has been called off while we battle the Covid-19 outbreak.
Instead, a virtual Grand National will take place at 5pm on Saturday, with bookies donating money to the NHS.
And workers will get a special treat next year, when 10,000 of them will be able to dress up and place some bets.
The new date – set for April 8 – will also be renamed ‘Liverpool’s NHS Day’, a statement confirmed.
Dickon White, Regional Director of Jockey Club Racecourses North West, said: “We’re delighted to donate 10,000 tickets to the NHS and professional carers across Merseyside.
“We’re also proud to re-name the first day of the 2021 Randox Health Grand National as Liverpool’s NHS Day in recognition of the amazing NHS staff and volunteers.
“We understand just how hard the NHS and professional carers are working right now and this is our way of showing our gratitude.
“The ticket process and distribution will begin at the start of next year and we’ll be working with the relevant organisations to ensure those who should benefit from the initiative are included.”
The move was quickly praised by those on social media.
One said: “What a fantastic thing to do.”
Another commented: “Brilliant idea! It’s the thought that counts and this event is one of the best in the sporting calendar and this will go a long way for our NHS workers!”
A fellow user wrote: “Great gesture, well done.”
