MPs okay electronic communications bill at first reading
The National Assembly passed a new bill on electronic communications at first reading on Friday. As the opposition-sponsored bill is nearly identical to the one voted down twice by the previous National Assembly, the coalition has expressed intention to change the contentious provisions before passing the bill.

Slovenia joining Stockholm Initiative for Nuclear Disarmament
The government decided on Friday that Slovenia will join the Stockholm Initiative for Nuclear Disarmament, as the initiative corresponds to the country's current position regarding nuclear disarmament and paves the way to a world without nuclear weapons, the Foreign Ministry said.
Govt adopts bill on forms of alternative investment funds
The government adopted on Friday a draft bill on the forms of alternative investment funds that envisages three forms and two types of funds. The long-awaited bill, with which the state wants to strengthen the capital market, is one of the milestones for the payment of the first instalment from the Covid recovery mechanism.
Competition watchdog director Matvoz stays on after all
Andrej Matvoz stays on at the helm of the Competition Protection Agency as the government dismissed Zlatko Ratej as the acting director on Friday, the day he was to take over from Matvoz, and appointed the latter as the acting director. Ratej, who was named by the previous government on 12 May, tendered his resignation in mid-June.

Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon was in Berlin on Friday to meet her German counterpart Annalena Baerbock, with the pair signing a joint action plan on three-year strategic cooperation and announcing further strengthening of cooperation between Slovenia and Germany, also relating to Ukraine.

Government drafts bill to better protect whistleblowers
The Justice Ministry has drafted a bill dedicated to protecting whistleblowers, which will be in public consultation until 10 August. The bill provides protection to whistleblowers reporting irregularities in their place of work.
Jana Ahčin becomes first woman president of Court of Audit
Jana Ahčin, a former director of the Financial Administration (FURS), was appointed Court of Audit president in a secret vote in the National Assembly on Friday in which she received 60 votes. She will take over for nine years as the court's first woman president, replacing Tomaž Vesel, whose term expired at the end of May.
Government gearing up to change several budgets
The government adopted on Friday budgetary guidance paving the way for drafting changes to the 2023 state budget and for drafting a budget for 2024. The Finance Ministry also estimates that a supplementary budget for this year will likely be needed due to the changed macroeconomic situation and new government priorities.
Milan M. Cvikl appointed C-bank vice-governor
The National Assembly elected in a secret ballot on Friday Milan M. Cvikl a vice-governor of the central bank Banka Slovenije. The former Slovenian member of the European Court of Auditors was backed by 54 votes to 25.

Slovenia has taken an active role in the UN's celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes, ahead of taking over the presidency of the Water Bureau of the UN Economic Commission for Europe in 2023 and 2024.
Olimpija Ljubljana ends short-lived cooperation with Prosinečki
Olimpija, Ljubljana's foremost football club, has terminated its cooperation with former Croatian superstar Robert Prosinečki who was hired as the head-coach in March this year. The club confirmed on Friday it is also parting ways with sporting director Mladen Rudonja.
