Parents savaged for ‘idiotic’ decision to give dog up to animal shelter because their son refused to do his homework

The Sun - Sat, 06/11/2021 - 17:51

A COUPLE have been savaged online after they revealed they gave up their family dog to an animal shelter because their son refused to do his homework.

The parents decided to teach their boy a lesson and got rid of his pet pooch, all because he wouldn’t do his homework as required.

RedditA couple were savaged online after revealing they gave up their dog to a shelter because their son didn’t do his homework[/caption]

An animal shelter shared a post of the family’s dog and revealed why the parents had chosen to give him up, with many criticising the couple and calling their reason for doing so ‘idiotic’.

Originally posted last year by Balch Springs Animal Shelter in Texas via Facebook, the shelter shared that the dog had been brought in because of the child’s bad behaviour.

Alongside a picture of Javier in his kennel, a message read: “This is Javier and he was surrendered today because his kid would not do his homework.

“Javier is a big friendly guy who is already microchipped…”

The post ended up going viral and was recently re-shared on Reddit, with plenty of people slamming the parents for cruelly giving up the dog so easily.

People were furious and claimed the dog was being punished as a result of the parents punishing their son, as the post racked up 4k comments.

One person posted: “That poor pup. He doesn’t deserve to be tossed out because a kid is being a kid.”

Another shared: “Working with animal shelters I will tell you this: They DEFINITELY mentioned the cause to be passive aggressive. Our local shelter does the same. Any idiotic reason people give to return animals gets blasted (no names mentioned).”

A third wrote: “How about being an empathetic human and not punishing the innocent being in that situation.”

One more fumed: “It’s an animal, not a toy that you can just take away when your kid is doing poorly in school.”

“That’s insane. I couldn’t even imagine how mad I’d get if that happened to mine,” added another, while one more commented: “I can’t imagine how this kid is feeling.”

Others related to the post and shared the baffling reasons why their adopted pets were abandoned, with one person revealing: “Our cat was brought to the shelter because she ‘no longer matched the home decor after the house was remodelled’. Who even does that. She’s a very loveable, friendly and cuddly cat And, no, she doesn’t perfectly match our decor because she’s a pet, not decoration.”

On a happier note, however, in March last year, the shelter revealed that Javier has now been adopted by another family.

PM Niazi, others pay glowing tributes to Jammu martyrs :

Associated Press Of Pakistan - Sat, 06/11/2021 - 17:50

MIRPUR (AJK): Nov 06 (APP):Expressing resolve to continue the freedom struggle relentlessly till the mission of the Kashmiri martyrs is completed, speakers at a rally alleged India of repeating the tragedy of 6 November 1947 across Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Kashmiri people on both sides of the Line of Control and across the world observed Jammu Martyrs Day on Saturday.

To commemorate the martyrdom of thousands of unarmed Muslims massacred on this day in 1947, a large number of people from a broad cross-section of society in the AJK metropolis reaffirmed the resolve to continue the martyrs’ mission till the realisation of their right to self-determination.

Addressing the rally Chairman Passban Hurriyat, Uzair Ahmad Ghazali, APHC leader Mushtaq-ul-Islam, PPP Leader Shaukat Javed Mir and others while addressing a rally said that thousands of Kashmiri people were killed by the “forces of the then ruler of Kashmir, Maharaja Hari Singh, the Indian Army and Hindu extremists in different parts of the Jammu” region on 6 November in 1947.

“The painful memories of the around 237,000 Muslim martyred in Jammu after they were driven out of their homes in November 1947 are still fresh in our hearts”, they said.

It was pre-meditated plan to turn the overwhelming majority of the Muslim into a minority, they added.

The speakers alleged that despite the presence of authentic evidences, the cold-blooded massacre of thousands of Muslims of Jammu was neither probed nor the terrorists involved in the carnage were held accountable.

While paying homage to the martyrs of Jammu for their supreme sacrifices for Islam, freedom and Pakistan, the speakers vowed to carry forward their mission till Kashmir is liberated from tyrannical Indian rule.

Referring to the ongoing freedom struggle in IOJK, the speakers said that their struggle is destined to succeed. They assured that people of AJK would never leave their brothers and sisters in occupied Kashmir alone in the struggle for liberation of their motherland.

At the same time AJK Prime Minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi has said that Kashmiris are the most courageous people on earth who are braving the Indian war machine and offering matchless sacrifices for their freedom and liberty.

Addressing a separate function organized by Kashmir Liberation Cell in connection with Jammu Martyrs Day in the AJK’S capital town late Saturday he said that the brave Kashmiris, despite of Indian atrocities and genocide, will never accept Indian hegemony and fascism at any cost and will continue their struggle to get their right to self-determination.

Inside world’s hottest countries where desperate farmers feed cattle CARDBOARD to survive & blazes wipe out homes

The Sun - Sat, 06/11/2021 - 17:46

This year is set to be the hottest on record – with some places on Earth reaching up to 53C.

And as world leaders gathered this week for the COP26 summit in Glasgow, they could do better than look at the corners of the world that have already been rendered uninhabitable by climate change.

BBC World ServiceClimate change is seeing temperatures rise in countries – causing bushfires and extreme weather[/caption] BBC World ServiceBBC World Service documentary Life at 50°C exploring rising global temperatures airs on November 10[/caption]

BBC World Service documentary Life at 50C has spoken to people living in seven of the hottest countries across the globe, examining how sky-high temperatures have affected their family, work and health.

The sweltering nations include Kuwait, where temperatures reached 54C this year, and the Sahara desert in Mauritania where it soars to 47C.

From being trapped inside all day long to desperate residents feeding their cattle cardboard, here we look at the devastating effects of global warming in the world’s hottest locations.

Kids ‘beg for shelter’ in world’s hottest country

This year, Kuwait has been recorded as the hottest country on Earth this year – something Ascia Alshammiri knows all too well.

The influencer says she is trapped indoors with her husband and small son from mid morning to late afternoon as it’s too hot to go outside.

“If you don’t live here and you’re not affected by it every day, you forget that it’s happening,” she says.

“The hours between 11 in the morning until around 4pm in the afternoon are no go times for being outdoors.

“The only life that my children have known has been in scorching heat.

“They want to be kids and go to the playground. They’ll beg to go all day and then we’ll finally break and take them and it’ll be so unbearable that they’re begging to go back home.”

The Middle East is heating up at twice the global average, according to the Max Planck Institut for Chemistry.

“This is the hottest I’ve ever seen Kuwait,” Ascia says.

“It is getting to the point where it’s really unbearable and I feel like everything about living here is hostile sometimes.”

Terrifying blazes wipe out thousands of homes

In the Australian bush fires in 2020, India Macdonell, from Goongerah, almost lost the home she shares with dad Shane.

“It was just extremely hot and everybody was starting to get worried day by day until it happened,” she says.

“I thought we were going to lose the house but it just… calmed down for a second and the fire kept going up the mountain.

Her dad Shane McDonell adds: “The fire was just too intense and out of my control.”

The father and daughter managed to save their home while 3,000 others were lost in the fires.

“It has completely and utterly changed the landscape here for the rest of my life, if not forever,” says Shane.

Scientists at World Weather attribution say the risk of fire due to the weather is 30 per cent higher than 100 years ago.

“I’m worried for my future. I’m worried that this house won’t be here in another five years,” India says.

Dr Sarah Perkins-Kirkpatrick, climate scientist at University of NSW tells the show there is “irrefutable evidence” that the climate of Australia has changed over the last 50 to 70 years.

And the rising temperatures have hit the scientist close to home in Sydney, where temperatures reached 49 °C in suburb Penrith in 2020.

“Some people think we’re boffins and we’re not actually real people,” she says.

“I have a two-year-old and a four-year-old daughter. It really bothers me that the world that they’re experiencing now is a lot different to my childhood.”

Dr Perkins-Kirkpatrick is moving to Canberra – a cooler city than Sydney – to build an eco-friendly home.

“As a scientist, I know how bad the future looks,” she says.

“But as a mum, as a person I guess, as a human being, I really struggle with just how bad those impacts will be.

“I know we’ve caused the problems and I know we also hold the key to the solutions.”

Forced to feed cattle cardboard amid crop shortage

Salt miner Sidi Fadoua says he has to mine at dawn – otherwise it is simply too hot in the Sahara in northern Mauritiana, Africa.

“It’s really hot here, not just normal heat. Like fire,” he says.

“If you pour water it’ll evaporate due to heat. Tough, tough, tough. Extremely hot.

“Working in the mine is getting worse because of climate change.”

His home Chinguetti was once a desert oasis that was home to 20,000 people.

Now it is buried in sand and only a few remain – while farmers feed their cattle cardboard as it’s too hot to grow crops.

Sidi has moved to the ocean to search for work – as part of a group known as ‘climate migrants’.

“I’m happy by the sea. May god help me find work here,” he says.

It’s really hot here, not just normal heat. Like fire. If you pour water it’ll evaporate

Salt miner Sidi Fadoua

Like Sidi, ex-farmer Mohamed Cheikh Choumouh has moved because of the desert’s stifling heat.

Before, he was forced to feed his cattle cardboard due to poor harvests for crops.

“The climate has changed in the last decade. The heat increased a lot and the rain is more scarce,” he says.

“This is why we do not have enough food for our animals and we replace it with cardboard.

“They didn’t like it at the beginning but then they accepted it because they’ll starve otherwise.”

Mohammed now has to leave his home to search for work as the heat affects his livelihood.

“I will look for a job on the sea or in the fishing industry or maybe I’ll set up a business or open a shop with the money from selling the animals,” he says.
